Oh My God They’re Back Again

Published 25/11/2012 by Lily Crussell

Yes, I did just quote the Backstreet Boys. No, I’m not ashamed of that fact!

Ok, here’s a quick warning for all my author and writer friends. The ‘company’ that took my money, conned me and then threatened me have come back but under a different name. I don’t think I can say the name without getting into trouble, but it involves a mystical bird that came from the ashes. It’s completely up to you who you trust, but I HAVE been screwed by them and really don’t want anyone else to have to go through that, not least because I did everything I could to be polite and reasonable and they ended up threatening me. Not the kind of people you want to give your hard earned cash to.

If you do have too much money and feel like giving it to them, I have several better alternatives;

-Put it through a shredder.

-Bury it.

-Burn it (may be illegal in your country)

-use it for origami.

-Give it to the homeless

-Give it to charity

I’m sorry for the sarcasm, but the fact that they are trying to do it again has gotten me really angry as they didn’t suffer any consequences from what they did last time.

You have been warned.

Block and stupid wrists

Published 09/10/2012 by Lily Crussell

I was doing voluntary work at the primary school where my mum works and they had me covering and labelling books. I have no problem with boring repetitive jobs (all the more time to daydream about Norman Reedus) but it has caused me awful pains in my wrists. This means I can’t do any of the things I love I.E Pole (I’ve missed about three weeks now) or large amounts of typing. Not a happy bunny. This isn’t helped by the fact that the weather is rubbish! Grey skies from now until April I think urgh! On the plus side, I did see an awesome motivator that pointed out that girls don’t have to shave their legs until April lol. Unfortunately due to pole classes, I do shave. I shave more for my pole girls than I ever have for a guy. TMI, but c’est la vie. Can you tell I’m bored as I can’t write?

I’ve been reading a lot and finished ‘One Day’ by David Nicholls ridiculously quickly. It’s a sweet enough book and I’ll admit I did see a lot of myself in Emma Morley. Go read it, it’s good. I wasn’t happy with the ending, but there we go.

Other than not, nothing much to tell. The pubslush appeal has been ditched as it just wasn’t happening. I’m thinking of using Createspace to get ‘Of Darkness and Light’ into print, but I’m struggling with finding a cover designer. Don’t get me wrong, there are loads of talented peeps out there, but they’re not doing what I want. I’m picky, what can I say. I just figure if I’m going to do it, I should do it properly with something I am 100% happy with. If you know anyone awesome who can work within the constraints of createspace (I really have no clue how it works) get in contact. Bare in mind I’m poor so nothing ridiculously expensive, unless they will take a kidney as payment. I don’t smoke, drink or do drugs, so my kidney must be in pretty good condition. One careful owner….lol.

THE WALKING DEAD SEASON THREE IS COMING SOON! OMG OMG OMG! I have a sad, sad life lol

Holy moly. Or Holly Molly.

Published 07/10/2012 by Lily Crussell

I woke up in Silent Hill today! It’s so foggy outside! Pretty cool though. I will be hiding out drinking green tea today I think (it’s vile, but so good for you I have to wait until it’s cool enough and down it!) blergh!

I’ve been uploading more chapters of ‘Love on the Run (From Zombies!) to Wattpad. They are only really drafts as I wrong it a long time ago and don’t want to spend weeks editing it when I’m offering it for free (I have other things I need to be sorting out and am drowning in editing at the moment) My wattpad profile es aqui; http://wattpad.com/LilyCrussell

Also, please go support a friend of mine (I say friend, we’ve never met, but we chat online all the time and she cracks me up!) she’s been working in the movie industry and has been writing a blog about it. Even I don’t know who ‘Van Murphy’ is as despite constant badgering, her lips are sealed! Her blog es aqui;http://ianamacmanus.blogspot.co.uk/?zx=5fc3dfa4f40f369a

It’s restricted because of the swearing, from what she’s told me there isn’t anything porny or awful other than the language.

If you can guess who ‘Van Murphy’ is, let me know as it’s driving me slightly mental. She’s given me ALL of her diary so far (there is hell of a lot more to come) to look through and I’m thinking of bribing her with cupcakes to find out. Also, she’s a Vegan which makes her a sister of mine as us weirdo Vegans have to stick together. Go check her out, she’s awesome. Also leave comments as she really wants feedback and having been through what she has, she can handle criticism.

Wattpad! Love on the Run (From Zombies!)

Published 03/10/2012 by Lily Crussell

I’m so annoyed! I spent ages typing out a post and the comp gave up and lost it! Anyway! I have posted one of my works on wattpad. The first two chapters are up, be aware that they haven’t been copy edited or anything like that, so there will be mistakes. I wrote this about five years ago, but it’s been doing the rounds and had no luck! I’ll post more chapters if it’s popular. Please spread the word and let me know honestly what you think.

Not sure how to link it properly as I’m blonde! There are posts on my FB anyway lol x

The Book Show – Cancelled

Published 23/08/2012 by Lily Crussell

I am utterly heart broken that the Book Show has been cancelled. I’ve been looking forward to it for months! Whereas the London Book Show was more for publishers and agents, this one was for authors. They didn’t give a reason for it being cancelled and simply said they’d hold it next year. 😦

Here’s Norman to cheer me up lol

Apart from that, I haven’t achieved much writing wise and am beginning to really annoy myself. I’ve been reading a lot, and trying to read outside the usual YA which is my usual preference. In the last few weeks I’ve finished; ‘House Rules’ by Jodi Picoult, ‘We Need to talk about Kevin’ by Lionel Shiriven, ‘Snow Flower and the Secret Fan’ by Lisa See and ‘Empress Orchid’ by Anchee Min. The last two I would recommend to everyone as I’ve read them several times. ‘Snow Flower’ has large parts about footbinding in China which are really interesting, and Empress Orchid is absolutely gorgeous! Go check them out

Turning Points!

Published 20/08/2012 by Lily Crussell

Ok, another little bit from the writing course that I did about Turning Points. This is only a short one.

1. Set up/Scenario/status quo – Normality at the beginning of the story. Making the audience aware of what ‘normal’ is, so that when things change, it will be evident.

2. An inciting Incident – The ‘thing’ that changes everything. It can be hugely dramatic, or it can be something smaller. It doesn’t ahve to even be an event, it could be a changing of state fo mind.

3. A Number of Turning Points – The changes that make the action happen and lead to the conclusion (resulting in the character growing or changing.)

4. Climax – The point that everything has been leading to, usually a dramatic event of some kind. The reward for the build up.

5. Resolution – How everything changed / or went back to normal after the climax. This can be a change of view point or character traits may have changed.

Also, next giveaway at 1050 Likes on my FB page!

Writing Course – The 12 Steps of the Hero.

Published 18/08/2012 by Lily Crussell

I went on a writing course on Wednesday, and whilst it was slightly pointless to me (no one else there had completed a book, they were at the very beginning stages, so it was aimed at them) there were a few things that I hadn’t come across before that I thought some of you might find useful;

The 12 Steps of the Hero

This is essantially the journay the protagonist goes on throughout the book to lead them to the ending. The steps are;

1. Ordinary World – The Hero’s life, what is normal for them. This can often lead to something upsetting the balance and changing it leading to the inciting incident (what causes everything in the book to happen essentially)

2.Call to Adventure – This is the reaction to the inciting incident i.e the hero needs to take action. This doesn’t mean that they do, but the need is there.

3. Refuse the Call – The Hero does not want things to change or does not feel they are up to the task at hand. They refuse. It builds suspense.

4. Meeting the Mentor – The Hero will meet someone who is a good example or offers advice to help them through (i.e in the Wizard of Oz, she meets the Good Witch)

5. Crossing the First Threshold – Essentially getting past the fear and deciding to do what needs doing.

6. Tests, Allies, Enemies – Conflict, the meeting of like minds or people who will hinder the journey.

7.Approach the Innermost Cave – Nearing the target, but something stops them.

8.Supreme Ordeal – An incident that causes the Hero to become disheartened and they hit rock bottom.

9. Reward (Seizing the Sword) – The Hero pulls themselves out of the pit of dispair and takes action.

10. Road Back – You think this is the journey home, but something often gets in the way.

11. Ressurrection – Hope is found. A minor character often reveals the Hero’s flaws so that they can over come them.

12. Return with the Elixir – Ending, resolution. The Hero has grown as a person and learned valuable things about themselves.

These can obviusly change in order, and not all will apply in every story (i.e not all books have happy ending. In Romeo and Juiet, no one learned anything, just that a tragedy had occured and lives had been wasted. There was no growth of the characters or knowledge that they could sue in the future)

I’d never heard of this before, but I think it might be useful to people who may be stuck in their writing. You can decide at what point your story is, and then progress onto the next step to give you some inspiration. Bear in mind rules can be broken and this isn’t something that should ever limit the creative flow!
