Getting Old

Published 19/12/2012 by Lily Crussell

I really, really can’t be bothered to drag the whole thing up again, but it is STILL a problem and I’m honestly getting thoroughly fed up about it now. Anything you read about me that is negative…come ask me about it as it’s unlikely to be true if from certain sources.

Anyway, enough of that boring bull.

I’ve seen people are doing this;

http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/26-random-acts-of-kindness

And honestly, I can’t think of a better way to pay tribute to those people who were killed in that senseless way. I have one request though – please remember the children that were killed in China too. No one seems to be talking about that which makes me really angry as the loss of life is horrific regardless of where in the world it happened.

I managed one act today as I’m a bit slow on the uptake;

In England we have people selling a magazine called the Big Issue, it’s about current events and gives jobs to homeless/unemployed people. Today I paid for an xmas issue (£3) and told her to keep the mag. Tiny, tiny thing in the big scheme of things, but the smile the woman gave me was enough to make me grin for the rest of the day. If you want to take part in this, it would also help to spread the word by leaving notes like the article shows above, then more people will know and will hopefully take part. I think the one thing the world can never have too much of is kindness.

Go forth and commit some acts of gratuitous KINDNESS!

Holy moly. Or Holly Molly.

I woke up in Silent Hill today! It’s so foggy outside! Pretty cool though. I will be hiding out drinking green tea today I think (it’s vile, but so good for you I have to wait until it’s cool enough and down it!) blergh!

I’ve been uploading more chapters of ‘Love on the Run (From Zombies!) to Wattpad. They are only really drafts as I wrong it a long time ago and don’t want to spend weeks editing it when I’m offering it for free (I have other things I need to be sorting out and am drowning in editing at the moment) My wattpad profile es aqui; http://wattpad.com/LilyCrussell

Also, please go support a friend of mine (I say friend, we’ve never met, but we chat online all the time and she cracks me up!) she’s been working in the movie industry and has been writing a blog about it. Even I don’t know who ‘Van Murphy’ is as despite constant badgering, her lips are sealed! Her blog es aqui;http://ianamacmanus.blogspot.co.uk/?zx=5fc3dfa4f40f369a

It’s restricted because of the swearing, from what she’s told me there isn’t anything porny or awful other than the language.

If you can guess who ‘Van Murphy’ is, let me know as it’s driving me slightly mental. She’s given me ALL of her diary so far (there is hell of a lot more to come) to look through and I’m thinking of bribing her with cupcakes to find out. Also, she’s a Vegan which makes her a sister of mine as us weirdo Vegans have to stick together. Go check her out, she’s awesome. Also leave comments as she really wants feedback and having been through what she has, she can handle criticism.

It had to be used again. Tyrion rocks!

Endings! Booyah!

Published 19/08/2012 by Lily Crussell

Ok, the topic was a bit of a lie, there will be no Booyah included in this post…possibly. I need to stop saying and writing it along with ‘AWESOME!’ which I say waaaaay too much.

ANYWAY!

More on what I learned on the writing course I went on (not much unfortunately, I think it was aimed at people who haven’t even started their books!) I was sat next to a lady called…I think Helen…who was proudly telling me she had written 8,000 in six months. I smiled, nodded and congratulated her. She asked how many words I had managed in the last six months. I told her that in two weeks I managed 100,000. I wasn’t trying to boast (though I am slightly proud) but I don’t like lying. Her mouth dropped. Everyone then spent the rest of the session teasing me for each exercise that we did as I was scribbling away madly, churning out four hundred words in 10 minutes or less. My point to them was, that doesn’t mean it’s any good. One woman had been going to writing courses and groups for 55 years and STILL hadn’t started her work. What?!? She must have spent a small fortune on classes in her life, and they obviously weren’t doing her any good because she was yet to put pen to paper- or fingers to keyboard.

Anyway, we did a small bit about Endings. Some authors struggle with endings. An example the tutor gave was with ‘The Lovely Bones’ (I haven’t read it) which is apparently an amazing book that should end a long time before it actually does. Some people are intuitive of when it is time to end the work, others struggle.

We were given a list of the different types;

1. Closed – Self explanitory, the ending happens and that’s it. There isn’t much room for interpretation because we have been made aware of what has happend.

2. Open – The ending is left unanswered in the sense that we are given some details, but we decide what we think has happened to the characters.

3. Cliff Hanger – Often used for the first in a series of books, or sometimes just used in single volume. This can often be unsatisfactory though in the case of the single book.

4. Circular.

5. Deus ex Machina (God of the Machine) – Having done Classics at school, I can tell you this was frequently used in Greek theatre as a way of coming to a conclusion, often in a way that’s a bit too convieniant. In the case of one play, gods come down and fix everything, the end. It can be used well in comedy though, especially if it is mocking others works that have tried to use this seriously.

What inspires you?

Published 24/07/2012 by Lily Crussell

I was having a conversation with a friend (painter) about what inspires her art. I was curious as to whether joy or sorrow gave her more inspiration to paint or more ideas. She said that both did, but in different ways. Sorrow tended to be inspiring, but only after the event. I.e sometimes the emotions were so overwhelming that she would have to wait until that subsided before she could access that emotion to paint with. She said joy was equally evasive in the sense that if she’s happy, she wants be enjoying it, rather than trying to get it down on canvas.

Personally, I find sorrow and pain to be more inspiring for poetry. When I am down I can churn out Haiku by the hundred (not that they’re much good lol) and I find I can write sad scenes a lot more realistically than happy ones. I suppose it may be because happiness tends to be more fleeting. Sorrow and pain tend to linger longer so we become better aquainted with them. Having depression doesn’t help either.

Joy I find difficult to access when I’m down, bu the opposite isn’t true. If I’m happy, I can write sad things eaily (though it does tend to end my happy mood!)

So what inspires you? What mood gives you the most inspiration?

P.S My newest book is with the Betas, so hopefully I’ll be able to get to work on fixing it as soon as they’re done. Then it’s out to the agents and publishers again! Oh the horror! Oh the cost of stamps lol x

Here is a gif of Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flannery to make you smile as it always makes me grin!
