Anyone know how to….

Published 31/10/2012 by Lily Crussell

Add my NaNoWriMo¬†widget to this blog? It only seems to give me the option to use their ready made widgets and I want to put a word count NaNo one up ūüė¶

Why isn’t it the 22nd December yet!

Decontamination Dance FTW!

Holy moly. Or Holly Molly.

I woke up in Silent Hill today! It’s so foggy outside! Pretty cool though. I will be hiding out drinking green tea today I think (it’s vile, but so good for you I have to wait until it’s cool enough and down it!) blergh!

I’ve been uploading¬†more chapters of ‘Love on the Run (From Zombies!) to Wattpad. They are only really drafts as I wrong it a long time ago and don’t want to spend weeks editing it when I’m offering it for free (I have other things I need to be¬†sorting out and am drowning in editing at the moment) My wattpad¬†profile es aqui; http://wattpad.com/LilyCrussell

Also, please go support a friend of mine (I say friend, we’ve never met, but we chat online all the time and she cracks me up!) she’s been working in the movie industry and has been writing¬†a blog about it. Even I don’t know who ‘Van Murphy’ is as despite constant badgering, her lips are sealed! Her blog es aqui;http://ianamacmanus.blogspot.co.uk/?zx=5fc3dfa4f40f369a

It’s restricted because of the swearing, from what she’s told me there isn’t anything porny or awful other than the language.

If you can guess who ‘Van Murphy’ is, let me know as it’s driving me slightly mental. She’s given me ALL of her diary so far (there is hell of a lot more to come) to look through and I’m thinking of bribing her with cupcakes to find out. Also, she’s a Vegan which makes her a sister of mine as us weirdo Vegans have to stick together. Go check her out, she’s awesome. Also leave comments as she really wants feedback and having been through what she has, she can handle criticism.

MORE magazine!

Published 10/09/2012 by Lily Crussell

I will be in an aritcle¬†in MORE magazine (comes out tomorrow) obviously it won’t be under my pen name :O so you can see how boring my REAL name is ūüė¶

The article is about asexuality, so is slightly adult in nature. I haven’t told anyone other than my parents and you guys so I will probably be getting some scared¬†emails from people I know! For those who haven’t heard the term, Asexuality is a lack of desire¬†or want of sexual relations. Essentially I want every other part of the relationship (kissing, cuddling etc) just not the sex part. I’ve been asked why I’m doing an article when I haven’t even told friends, but I want people to realise what it is. I live in a world where sex is forced down my throat from every direction, and it’s not particularly pleasant. Most people have never even heard of it, so I’m hoping to raise awareness.

Last Tue I went to London to do a photoshoot¬†and interview in a Hotel in the psher¬†area of London. I rocked up in a pair of jeans, getting appalled looks from the staff that worked there! Ooops! They spent over two hours doing makeup and hair, which was new for me as I’ve never had anything like that done before. I’m pretty rubbish at being a girl if I’m honest! The stylist put curls in my hair which I was waaaaaaaay¬†too excited about! Once that was all done, the photos were taken. I’m not going to lie, I used to think models had an easy life, but I’ve learned it’s not much fun being contorted and twisted and being made to sit in painful positions for hours. I won’t be¬†persuing¬†a career in this field that’s for sure! The positions that looked ‘natural’ were ways I would never sit or lie as they were bent¬†all over the place! Between shots, my hair would be fussed over, my clothes etc. Whilst it was a lot of fun for a one off, I couldn’t do it daily. I’d probably go crazy!

The hotel room had a gorgeous four¬†poster bed and was ridiculously posh. I felt out of place¬†just being there! All the staff were amasingly¬†reassuring and sweet and they couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly. Once the photos were done, and I managed to FINALLY get the skinniest skinny jeans in the world off, everyone left and it was time for the interview. That was surprisingly easy too as it was just like chatting to a friend. Everyone was wonderful as I’d been utterly terrfied! I wish I’d taken some photos of the room as there’s no way I’ll ever be in anywhere that posh again lol!

Anyhoo, if you’re UK, check it out tomorrow!

Turning Points!

Published 20/08/2012 by Lily Crussell

Ok, another little bit from the writing course that I did about Turning Points. This is only a short one.

1. Set up/Scenario/status quo¬†– Normality at the beginning of the story. Making the audience aware of what ‘normal’ is, so that when things change, it will be evident.

2. An inciting Incident – The ‘thing’ that changes everything. It can be¬†hugely dramatic, or it can be¬†something smaller. It doesn’t ahve to even be an event, it could be a changing of state fo mind.

3. A Number of Turning Points – The changes that make the action happen and lead to the conclusion (resulting in the character growing or changing.)

4. Climax – The point that everything has been leading to, usually a dramatic event of some kind. The reward for the build up.

5. Resolution РHow everything changed / or went back to normal after the climax. This can be a change of view point or character traits may have changed.

Also, next giveaway at 1050 Likes on my FB page!

Nearly at 1000 Likes

Published 31/07/2012 by Lily Crussell

Crazy! Utterly unimaginable previously, but I’m very excited! I will be doing more¬†giveaways when I hit the big 1000, only about 20 more people to go, yay!

What have I been up to recently? Not much if I’m honest. I’ve been signed off work for a few weeks and have just been trying to get my head together, which isn’t going so well. Turning 29 makes you wonder what it is you’ve done with your life so far and I just don’t have a whole lot¬†to show for it. I’ve started two new books in two days as my thoughts are so scattered! I’ve also been watching a lot of movies to try to not ‘think’ so I have been drowning¬†in Norman Reedus, which is pretty much every girl’s dream right? What do you mean you’ve never heard of him!?!

Anyhoo, the newest book is with the Beta readers, so hopefully once they’re¬†done with it, I can get to work on it again and make changes and get it out to agents etc. Urgh, such a long, drawn out process. There are still queries out from my last set I sent out over six months ago! There’ll be another ice age before they’re all back no doubt.

I’m going though a popcorn and ramen noodles phase at the moment, I can’t get enough of either! Not good as neither are particularly¬†nutritious, but there we go. I’ve been binging¬†on cherries as they seem to be¬†in season right now¬†and have overkilled slightly lol.

Sorry about the random post, but my head’s all over the place at the moment.

Word Counts and why I hate them.

Published 20/07/2012 by Lily Crussell

The ‘new’ first draft is out with the betas, so we shall see what they think. The biggest problem I found for this one was how much I struggled to end it. I also hate how confined the genre is with word count. No publishers want a YA novel that is over 80,000 words. Of Darkness and light is 99,000 and I had to cut a tonne out of that! The one I’ve just sent out is 78,000 but that is because I cut a lot. More will probably be added after this draft. I understand that bigger books cost more to produce, but go pick up a¬† book from any other genre, and they’re often twice the size or more. The ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series for example¬†(which I am currently reading) are HUGE. Each book is MASSIVE! I struggle to ‘kill my darlings’ when editing as if I put it in in¬†the first place, I think there’s a reason for it. Some scenes don’t add to the story, but they show more about the character. Editing is my own personal hell, not only because I’m hacking out things that I like, but also because it’s impossible to see the book as¬†a reader would. I know the background of my chars, so it’s impossible to notice gaps as my mind will instantly fill them in!

Any wannabe authors out there, find yourself a good critique partner as soon as possible! It’s not something I’ve been able to get for myself and I think it would be helpful, especially if that person is already published! That kind of advice is invaluable!

Thank you all again for the all the Birthday Wishes! They were much appreciated!

I used this for a caption comp recently, but had to share it again. If you haven’t seen the Boondock¬†Saints 1 and 2, go find them now! There will be a third, and the brothers quite clearly object to sparkly vampires! Bearing in mind my ex looks a lot like Robert Pattinson, I especially love this picture lol x
