I hate my computer!

Published 02/10/2012 by Lily Crussell

Sorry for the lack of posts, but my lappy hasn’t been able to cope with WP for some reason! It’s been completely useless, but for now it seems to be playing ball so I will take advantage!

Not much to tell in the way of writing as I’m working on a few things. I’m hoping to send out one book for a critique soon, it;s the one I’ve sent out to my Beta readers and I think it’s the most complete book I have so far. Of Darkness and Light is driving me a little mental at the moment as I can’t bring myself to reread it to even think about the follow up ‘Of Blood and Feathers’ as I have read it so many times! No more! Not for the moment anyway!

Other than that, not much to tell though I do have some suggestions if you’re bored;

9gag.com

buzzfeed.com

cracked.com

As I waste waaaaay too much time on them. On a plus, apparently it’s been scientifically proven that looking at pictures of cute animals makes you more productive. That has to be a lie as if I look at cute animals, I then look up more cute animals, and more and more until it’s been three hours and I have no idea where the time went!

I’m currently reading ‘Jin-shei’ by Alma Alexander, which I’ve read before but found a copy of so thought I’d reread it. I also started the ‘Flowers in the Attic’ series by Virginia Andrews. I’ve finished the second book, but don’t know if I can bring myself to read the third as I just want to punch Cathy in the face repeatedly!

As the weather gets crappier, I thought I’d share my uber secret recipe for VEGAN hot chocolate. I honestly think it tastes better than the normal kinds I used to drink before I turned Vegan. By super secret, I mean I stole it mwahahahhahahaha!

I use rice milk as it’s sweet, but soya, almond and other fake milks work just as well, but they will affect the taste.

Mug of rice milk, chuck it in pan (not the mug, just the milk), chuck in vanilla essence (I use one measure of the cap as the bottles tend to be quite small, then agave syrup (I found this in the whole foods section, it’s made from cacti which sounds gross, but it’s really nice and low GI) I personally just throw it in without measuring. Once it boils, mix in a tablespoon (obv depends on how big the mug is as you may need more or less) of cocoa power. I use Bournville as it’s gorgeous! Make sure it’s all mixed in properly and then drink when cool enough! Booyah! Ensure you’re curled up with a good book whilst drinking!

Also! I am utterly, utterly in love with Fightstar at the moment. Trust me to re-love them when they’re on long term Hiatus! They’re a Brit band and I had their album ‘Grand Unification’ but had never bothered to look up the others. THEY’RE AMASING! To get a feel for them, look up ‘Floods’, ‘The English Way’, ‘Waste a Moment’, ‘Tonight we Burn’. ‘Unfamiliar ceilings’. So good! Their lead singer Charlie Simpson also has a solo album called ‘Young Pilgrim’ which I also adore! Look up ‘thorns’ it is such a sweet song!

Unfortunately my Reedus addiction only seems to get worse on a daily basis, so BOOM;

MORE magazine!

Published 10/09/2012 by Lily Crussell

I will be in an aritcle in MORE magazine (comes out tomorrow) obviously it won’t be under my pen name :O so you can see how boring my REAL name is 😦

The article is about asexuality, so is slightly adult in nature. I haven’t told anyone other than my parents and you guys so I will probably be getting some scared emails from people I know! For those who haven’t heard the term, Asexuality is a lack of desire or want of sexual relations. Essentially I want every other part of the relationship (kissing, cuddling etc) just not the sex part. I’ve been asked why I’m doing an article when I haven’t even told friends, but I want people to realise what it is. I live in a world where sex is forced down my throat from every direction, and it’s not particularly pleasant. Most people have never even heard of it, so I’m hoping to raise awareness.

Last Tue I went to London to do a photoshoot and interview in a Hotel in the psher area of London. I rocked up in a pair of jeans, getting appalled looks from the staff that worked there! Ooops! They spent over two hours doing makeup and hair, which was new for me as I’ve never had anything like that done before. I’m pretty rubbish at being a girl if I’m honest! The stylist put curls in my hair which I was waaaaaaaay too excited about! Once that was all done, the photos were taken. I’m not going to lie, I used to think models had an easy life, but I’ve learned it’s not much fun being contorted and twisted and being made to sit in painful positions for hours. I won’t be persuing a career in this field that’s for sure! The positions that looked ‘natural’ were ways I would never sit or lie as they were bent all over the place! Between shots, my hair would be fussed over, my clothes etc. Whilst it was a lot of fun for a one off, I couldn’t do it daily. I’d probably go crazy!

The hotel room had a gorgeous four poster bed and was ridiculously posh. I felt out of place just being there! All the staff were amasingly reassuring and sweet and they couldn’t have been more welcoming and friendly. Once the photos were done, and I managed to FINALLY get the skinniest skinny jeans in the world off, everyone left and it was time for the interview. That was surprisingly easy too as it was just like chatting to a friend. Everyone was wonderful as I’d been utterly terrfied! I wish I’d taken some photos of the room as there’s no way I’ll ever be in anywhere that posh again lol!

Anyhoo, if you’re UK, check it out tomorrow!

Writing Course – The 12 Steps of the Hero.

Published 18/08/2012 by Lily Crussell

I went on a writing course on Wednesday, and whilst it was slightly pointless to me (no one else there had completed a book, they were at the very beginning stages, so it was aimed at them) there were a few things that I hadn’t come across before that I thought some of you might find useful;

The 12 Steps of the Hero

This is essantially the journay the protagonist goes on throughout the book to lead them to the ending. The steps are;

1. Ordinary World – The Hero’s life, what is normal for them. This can often lead to something upsetting the balance and changing it leading to the inciting incident (what causes everything in the book to happen essentially)

2.Call to Adventure – This is the reaction to the inciting incident i.e the hero needs to take action. This doesn’t mean that they do, but the need is there.

3. Refuse the Call – The Hero does not want things to change or does not feel they are up to the task at hand. They refuse. It builds suspense.

4. Meeting the Mentor – The Hero will meet someone who is a good example or offers advice to help them through (i.e in the Wizard of Oz, she meets the Good Witch)

5. Crossing the First Threshold – Essentially getting past the fear and deciding to do what needs doing.

6. Tests, Allies, Enemies – Conflict, the meeting of like minds or people who will hinder the journey.

7.Approach the Innermost Cave – Nearing the target, but something stops them.

8.Supreme Ordeal – An incident that causes the Hero to become disheartened and they hit rock bottom.

9. Reward (Seizing the Sword) – The Hero pulls themselves out of the pit of dispair and takes action.

10. Road Back – You think this is the journey home, but something often gets in the way.

11. Ressurrection – Hope is found. A minor character often reveals the Hero’s flaws so that they can over come them.

12. Return with the Elixir – Ending, resolution. The Hero has grown as a person and learned valuable things about themselves.

These can obviusly change in order, and not all will apply in every story (i.e not all books have happy ending. In Romeo and Juiet, no one learned anything, just that a tragedy had occured and lives had been wasted. There was no growth of the characters or knowledge that they could sue in the future)

I’d never heard of this before, but I think it might be useful to people who may be stuck in their writing. You can decide at what point your story is, and then progress onto the next step to give you some inspiration. Bear in mind rules can be broken and this isn’t something that should ever limit the creative flow!

Reedus Gif of the day (They amuse me anyway lol)

Booyah!

Holy crap!

Published 13/08/2012 by Lily Crussell

I have been writing madly (between bouts of serious procrastination whilst looking at 9gag.com, buzzfeed and cracked.com lol) and have written 101,741 words in about two weeks. That is insane! Ok, I’m not going to lie, most of it is trash! It’s pretty much a fantasy story (not unicorns etc, I mean if I could write my own life, what I would like to happen) Might stick a unicorn in it though as if I could write my own life, there would be unicorns.

Having a giveaway on my fanpage on facebook. We’re at 1028 Likes! It’s insane!

Also, have my beta readers reading my newest completed work, so it’s just a case of waiting for that to come back.

Crazy! Utterly unimaginable previously, but I’m very excited! I will be doing more giveaways when I hit the big 1000, only about 20 more people to go, yay!

What have I been up to recently? Not much if I’m honest. I’ve been signed off work for a few weeks and have just been trying to get my head together, which isn’t going so well. Turning 29 makes you wonder what it is you’ve done with your life so far and I just don’t have a whole lot to show for it. I’ve started two new books in two days as my thoughts are so scattered! I’ve also been watching a lot of movies to try to not ‘think’ so I have been drowning in Norman Reedus, which is pretty much every girl’s dream right? What do you mean you’ve never heard of him!?!

Anyhoo, the newest book is with the Beta readers, so hopefully once they’re done with it, I can get to work on it again and make changes and get it out to agents etc. Urgh, such a long, drawn out process. There are still queries out from my last set I sent out over six months ago! There’ll be another ice age before they’re all back no doubt.

I’m going though a popcorn and ramen noodles phase at the moment, I can’t get enough of either! Not good as neither are particularly nutritious, but there we go. I’ve been binging on cherries as they seem to be in season right now and have overkilled slightly lol.

Sorry about the random post, but my head’s all over the place at the moment.
